Today Uk Anime Limited announce the Acquistion of the Studio Ghibli Masterpiece Grave of the Fireflies

GLASGOW, AUGUST 26 2025 – Anime Limited are proud to announce the acquisition of the incredible and moving anti-war masterpiece Grave of the Fireflies in the UK and Ireland, ensuring the return of this important early film from Studio Ghibli to the big screen and beyond.  

Based on the personal accounts of survivor Akiyuki Nosaka, Grave of the Fireflies is hailed as one of the most stunning contributions to animation and cinematic history. Deftly depicting the beauty of the human spirit as well as its devastating cruelty, Grave of the Fireflies is a singular work of art from Academy Award nominated director and Studio Ghibli co-founder, the late Isao Takahata. 

This seminal masterwork is being screened at the Barbican Centre on Wednesday 27^th August at 8:30PM, as part of the venue’s “Animation at War” programming strand. A wider theatrical release of the film around the UK will follow in 2026, alongside a home video release on Blu-ray. 

This is really exciting to see Anime limted have been putting anime in the cinema in the uk for a long time, to see them team up with Studio Ghibli is really wonderful lets hope this is the start of a great partnership for many years to come.
