Great news ahead of the anime limited releases of the 80s classic anime hit Akira the movie will see its biggest ever Uk and ireland release Akira will be hitting over 350 cinemas here in the UK and will also be showing in IMAX screens up and down the Uk.

April 17th will be an exciting day for Uk anime fans as Akira originally released in Japan in 1988 and later released in United Kingdom in 1991 by Island World Communications later renamed Manga entertainment the run was so popualr Akira even aired a few years later on the bbc alongside a documentary about anime with a very young Jonathan ross which you can check out below.

Plot

Rebuilt from the ashes of World War III, Neo-Tokyo is a breathtaking, neon-lit metropolis where lawlessness and corruption run rampant. Racing through its streets are Kaneda and Tetsuo, two delinquents and members of a biker gang. When they crash into a secret government plot and Tetsuo is experimented on, the result is an explosive, mesmerising masterpiece of animation that would change cinema forever.
